For our second season, the revolting children are taking the stage… and they’re ready to change their story.
Matilda Jr. follows a brilliant little girl with a vivid imagination, a love of books, and just a little bit of magic up her sleeve. Stuck with grown-ups who think she’s “a little bit naughty,” Matilda refuses to play by the rules—because sometimes you have to be a little bit rebellious to make things right.
With the help of her kind-hearted teacher Miss Honey and a crew of bold, big-thinking classmates, Matilda discovers that even the smallest person can make a big difference. Whether she’s standing up to the terrifying Miss Trunchbull or proving that “nobody but me is gonna change my story,” Matilda shows us all what it means to be brave, clever, and just a little bit cheeky.
Packed with high-energy songs, heart, humor, and a touch of magic, this show is all about finding your voice, rewriting the rules, and maybe even tipping a glass or two along the way.
So grab your books, practice your best “Bruce!” chant, and get ready—because this is one story you won’t want to miss.

Meet Our Founder!
Hi, I'm NB Engholm! I'm a 15-year-old from Baton Rouge. In my free time, I love to do musicals, create movies, and write. I love listening to some of my favorite musicals like Hadestown, Hamilton, or Wicked. I love to sing, act, direct, etc.
Why I Created This Theatre
Because I love being in the cast, but I also love working backstage. I especially love to direct, so one day, I was thinking, why don't I? I know lots of people who love directing in their free time just for fun, or they choreograph something just for fun, but at LYT, youth theatre can show their abilities in more ways than just onstage.
They could direct or choreograph or music direct or even stage manage a whole musical and show it on a stage to a big audience and a full cast. This is a theatre where the youth can do anything and everything. They can play a role, be the stage manager, and direct the whole show from start to finish. This is a theatre where we believe in you and your vision.
WHY LYT?
LYT, short for Louisiana Youth Theater, is pronounced "light" to symbolize the brilliance and creativity that shines within every dreamer!
